Remove anything from any picture. Image: D. Griffin Jones/Cult of Mac
You can easily remove any object from a photo using the new Apple Intelligence Clean Up tool.
As the graphic designer among my friends, I’ve always been asked to Photoshop things out of my friend’s pictures. A romantic shot in a gazebo, with a phone sitting on the handrail in an obvious spot. A group photo from a fun night out, with someone’s tote bag sitting by their feet. A picture from a big conference, with an ugly lanyard around someone’s neck.
Now, you have the power to clean up your own photos — a chance to make your almost-perfect shots perfect. Here’s how it works.
Time to upgrade from your aging iPhone 12 Pro. Photo/Graphics: Apple/Rajesh Pandey
When it launched in October 2020, the iPhone 12 Pro packed cutting-edge hardware. Four years later, that’s not the case. While Apple’s 2020 flagship iPhone can still hold its own, you should consider upgrading to the iPhone 16 Pro.
Wondering if the improvements are even big enough to warrant an upgrade? Find out in this comparison.

A hot feature of Apple Music playlist collaboration. In advance of a party, road trip or any kind of themed event, you and others organizing the music can build a playlist together.
This isn’t to be confused with a similar feature, SharePlay, which lets people in the same room add songs to a live queue. SharePlay is more ephemeral; it lets others nearby play songs in the car or to a Bluetooth speaker without passing around your unlocked phone.
A shared Apple Music playlist is saved and can be replayed at any time. To find out everything you need to know about Apple Music playlist collaboration, keep reading or watch our quick how-to video.
Enjoy wireless audio from any source with this easy-to-use Bluetooth transmitter/receiver. Photo: Cult of Mac Deals
Bluetooth headphones offer a lot of freedom — but how free are you, really? Without a Bluetooth transmitter and receiver, you’re still limited to listening from your iPhone, Mac, iPad and other Bluetooth-compatible devices. And that rules out a lot of audio options.
You can beat the Bluetooth blues with the Mymanu Link. This simple but handy gadget lets you stream from anything with an audio output jack. Then you can transmit that audio to your wireless earbuds or any Bluetooth speaker. And for a limited time, you can get your hands on a Mymanu Link for less than $30 (40% off).
The new Sonos Arc Ultra soundbar brings a lot of bass on its own, but you can also pair with the new Sub 4 subwoofer and other Sonos speakers. Photo: Sonos
Apple-centric home audio nuts — and especially home theater aficionados — can officially get excited about two new high-end offerings from Sonos with new Sound Motion technology: the Sonos Arc Ultra soundbar and the Sonos Sub 4 subwoofer. You can preorder now, with their release coming on October 29, Sonos said Tuesday.
“For decades, Sonos has revolutionized home theater and music experiences with products that look as great as they sound. Driven by our hunger for innovation, we created Sound Motion to break the boundaries of what’s possible by a single speaker, bringing this industry-first transducer technology to home theater where demand for extraordinary sound is equal to designs that fit modern living spaces,” said Patrick Spence, CEO of Sonos.
“Arc Ultra is a reimagination of our best-selling soundbar, leveraging this incredible innovation to deliver an unprecedented sound experience from a sleeker design,” he added. And by the way, Sonos said it’s also making progress on improving its much-maligned updated app.
After Steve Jobs and Tim Cook, John Sculley is Apple's most memorable CEO. Photo: Web Summit/Flickr CC
October 15, 1993: John Sculley, the former CEO responsible for forcing Steve Jobs out of Apple, is forced to leave the company himself.
When Sculley resigns as Apple’s chairman, he takes $1 million in severance pay, a one-year consulting fee of $750,000, a commitment from Apple to buy his $4 million mansion and $2 million Lear jet, and $2.4 million in stock options. Total take: around $10 million.
Four seasons of "Slow Horses are streaming, season 5 is on the way and season 6 is already approved. Photo: Apple TV+
The acclaimed Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning spy drama series Slow Horses, starring Academy Award winner Gary Oldman, gallops toward a green-lighted sixth season even as season 4 just concluded October 9, Apple TV+ said Tuesday. This continues a trend. Season 5 won approval right after the season 3 finale — well before season 4 aired. And it also makes Slow Horses the streamer’s longest-running show by number of seasons. Though admittedly, at six episodes apiece, they’re not long seasons.
“Audiences around the world have fallen in love with the Slow Horses, and I’m delighted that Gary Oldman will be leading this star-studded cast on another acerbic and action-packed adventure,” said Jay Hunt, creative director, Europe, Apple TV+.
Amazon discounts extend to M4 iPad Pro, keyboard cases and more. Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac
The new iPad mini (7th generation) came out Tuesday, and other new models are likely to follow soon — but, as usual, the biggest savings are in older models, including current Amazon deals on iPads. Right now you can get some pretty serious discounts at Amazon on a variety of iPad models, including M4 iPad Pro, M2 iPad Air, 9th- and 10th-generation iPads and the previous iPad mini (6th generation). Some models are $200 off! See below. And it’s not just iPads, but Apple Pencils and iPad keyboard cases, too.

The iPad mini 7, the first new version released in three years, offers support for the AI features dubbed Apple Intelligence. Plus, the tablet comes with a significant jump in storage capacity and supports the new Apple Pencil Pro. Otherwise, it is very similar to its predecessor. That includes sticking with the same prices.
“There is no other device in the world like iPad mini, beloved for its combination of powerful performance and versatility in our most ultraportable design. iPad mini appeals to a wide range of users and has been built for Apple Intelligence, delivering intelligent new features that are powerful, personal, and private,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
Apple wants to make your iPhone into your car key, if it can get automakers to cooperate. Photo: Apple/Cult of Mac
Apple will purportedly expand the iPhone’s support for digital car keys in the Wallet app to more brands. The new additions will include select Volvo, Polestar, and Audi vehicles.
Currently, the feature only works with BMW, BYD, Hyundai, RAM and Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
Ever wonder what these symbols mean? Image: D. Griffin Jones/Cult of Mac
Those tiny, cryptic symbols on clothing tags and car dashboards can confuse anyone. However, your iPhone camera can quickly decipher the meaning of laundry symbols and dashboard icons. You don’t need to look up a guide or Google their meaning. Just take a picture and your iPhone will tell you.
While in my testing the iPhone didn’t identify every single symbol, the feature will do in a pinch. And if you want to use a third-party app for the best possible results, I can recommend two that I found on the App Store that can help you.

Coding with Magic Mouse? This dev loves it. Photo: [email protected]
Coding with Magic Mouse? Apple’s sleek input device has plenty of haters of all stripes. But at least one developer, who works with an M1 Max MacBook Pro, loves it. And perhaps even more surprisingly, he detests the mouse that is surely Magic Mouse’s biggest competitor, given how it shows up in most of the setups we cover.

Apple reportedly wants to repurpose some of the technology that went into its Vision Pro headset for simpler products. That includes a pair of smart glasses plus AirPods with IR cameras.
These could launch in 2027, with additions to the Vision headset line coming before then.

The upgraded charging case with display and touch bar is pretty cool, especially for keeping tabs on battery level. Photo: David Snow/Cult of Mac
The new Soundcore Liberty 4 Pro wireless noise-canceling earbuds are the flagship of Anker’s Soundcore earbuds lineup, promising and delivering great sound and high-end features at a more accessible price point than some competitors, like AirPods Pro 2. After putting the Liberty Pro buds through their paces in various scenarios, I’m happy to recommend them for most users in this Soundcore Liberty 4 Pro earbuds review.
And that nifty new charging case with display screen and touch bar is pretty cool. But it’s a bit of a gimmick because it doesn’t do anything you can’t do with the app or touch controls. That said, most earbuds charging cases don’t have those features at all (yet).
They're not giving up without a fight. Photo: Apple TV+
In the The Last of the Sea Women documentary, the way of life of South Korea’s haenyeo, or sea women of Jeju Island, is disappearing. But it won’t happen without a fierce fight from the grandmother-warrior divers, often called “real-life mermaids,” and a younger generation of helpers, according to the trailer Apple TV+ dropped Thursday.
The documentary film from producer Malala Yousafzai and director Sue Kim premieres on Apple TV+ on October 11.

Created in association with U2 lead singer Bono and activist/attorney Bobby Shriver, it’s the first of many Apple philanthropic products. “We’re ecstatic that Apple is giving their customers the choice to buy a red iPod nano and help women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa,” Bono says in a statement.

Whether Apple launches the M4 MacBook Pro at a glitzy press event or a quiet press release, the next-generation macOS notebook is undoubtedly mere weeks away — probably reaching customers on November 1.
Here’s what to expect from the late-2024 MacBook Pro when it gets upgraded with the new Apple M4 processor.
