An update to Apple Business Connect that launched Wednesday enables any verified business to control how it appears in Apple Maps, Wallet and Mail, even if they don’t have a brick-and-mortar storefront.
This should give consumers access to the accurate information they need about these companies because it’ll be supplied by the best source: the owners of the businesses.
Other changes should help protect consumers from phishing attempts.
Companies can now control how their business appears in Apple apps
Apple Business Connect premiered in 2023 as a way for companies to customize the location place cards that appear in Apple Maps, Messages, Wallet, Siri and other apps. It now expands to all businesses, including ones that don’t appear in the Maps app.
“We’re excited to offer all businesses — including those without a physical location — the ability to create a brand that appears across the Apple apps that over a billion people use every day,” said David Dorn, Apple’s senior director of Internet Software and Services Product. “We designed Business Connect to empower businesses to present the best, most accurate information to Apple users. With today’s updates, we’re helping even more businesses reach customers, build trust, and grow.”
More trustworthy emails and calls
Companies can now sign up via Apple Business Connect to display their brand name and logo in the Mail app. And customize their logo in Tap to Pay on iPhone, rather than having a generic icon appear.
Starting in 2025, companies will be able to register for Business Caller ID. This will put their name, logo and department on the inbound call screen in the Phone app when they contact customers.
All of these should help consumers know that they are being contacted by a legitimate business rather than a phishing scheme.
