Gone are the days when you needed a separate charger for pretty much every device. These days, with gallium nitride, aka GaN, technology allowing for small-but-powerful chargers, you can handle most of your charging needs with just one device.

If you like cute, Ugreen’s got you covered. Its new Ugreen Nexode RG fast chargers are adorable little “robots” that can charge iPhones, iPads and more. “RG” stands for “Robot GaN,” meaning they’re gallium nitride (GaN) chargers.
And they really only look like robots. They’re not going to walk your dog or rise up and destroy humanity or anything. Probably.
The company sent me a trio of the little cuties to check out. You could get several for different electrical outlets, and when they’re not plugged in, they could stand guard over your computer setup.

Rolled out Thursday, the speedy charger takes up a small space by putting a MagSafe platform for iPhone that tilts up on top and USB-C and USB-A ports in the squat body. The company sent me one to try.

As the world increasingly turns to USB-C connectivity — looking at you, imminent iPhone 15 — Ugreen is there. Its powerful new Nexode 300-watt GaN fast-charger, launched Tuesday, powers up five devices at once — four via USB-C and one via USB-A.
Ugreen calls it “the world’s first 5-Port 300W GaN desktop charger,” and the company sent me the beast to check out. You’ll want to keep this hefty brick in one place, not carry it around with you.

You’ll find plenty of multiport GaN chargers in the market. Unfortunately, most of them will struggle to charge your MacBook Pro at full speed alongside other devices.
When traveling, this could force you to carry an extra power brick. This is where Chargeasap’s Zeus 270W USB-C charger comes in. It packs enough power to charge multiple devices simultaneously. As a result, it’s become my go-to travel charger on road trips and vacations.

The Edifier QD35 is not an average-looking speaker. Photo: David Snow/Cult of Mac
Whether it’s an RGB-plagued mouse or a stereo system that’s trying too hard, I tend to scoff at devices that light up in all the colors of the damned rainbow. But if they light up and also sound as good as Edifier’s QD35 Tabletop Bluetooth Speaker, I guess I’m sold. Let’s party.
Edifier recently sent me a unit to check out. You can read my thoughts below. In brief, the QD35 may not be everyone’s main stereo system, but it could be an ideal one-room speaker — whether that’s a kitchen, bedroom, rec room or man-cave/she-shack.
