When a brilliant math postgraduate verges on sussing out a certain pattern in prime numbers, he finds himself in between unseen enemies and government forces in a burgeoning conspiracy. That’s according to the new trailer Apple TV+ dropped Monday for upcoming series Prime Target. After all, the whiz kid’s discovery could unlock every computer and unravel digital security worldwide, apparently.
“A brilliant mind is a dangerous weapon,” notes the tagline on the new series’ key art. The eight-episode conspiracy thriller debuts January 22 on Apple TV+. Watch the trailer below.
Apple TV+ unveils brainy, action-packed trailer for conspiracy thriller Prime Target
The new trailer for Prime Target establishes the main character’s supposed mathematical genius early on. In the vaunted halls of Cambridge University, he heckles a professor’s lecture by calling Sir Isaac Newton “full of it.” From there we see quick-cut scenes showing the professor getting to know the brash student and his work with prime numbers. That leads quickly to warnings he must drop it immediately. Soon enough, the student realizes he’s being watched and followed. And not only that. He’s actually abducted.
“Prime Target features a brilliant young math postgraduate, Edward Brooks (Leo Woodall), who is on the verge of a major breakthrough. If he succeeds in finding a pattern in prime numbers, he will hold the key to every computer in the world,” said Apple TV+’s description of the plot. “Soon, he begins to realize an unseen enemy is trying to destroy his idea before it’s even born, which throws him into the orbit of Taylah Sanders, an NSA agent (Quintessa Swindell) who’s been tasked with watching and reporting on mathematicians’ behavior. Together, they start to unravel the troubling conspiracy Edward is at the heart of.”
Villains and government forces — apologies if that may seem like repetitive phrasing, given most thriller plots — soon vie to bury or control the prime numbers pattern. And of course that brings explosive action to the trailer. But will they bust into your Mac or iPhone? You’ll have to watch the show.
