Those in Europe and Asia eager to get an Apple Vision Pro supposedly won’t have to wait much longer. Consumers in more than half a dozen countries will reportedly be able to buy the AR/VR headset in about a week.
The product launched in the U.S. this winter, but an announcement of broader availability isn’t expected until June 10 at WWDC24.
Vision Pro reportedly headed for Europe and Asia
Vision Pro is Apple’s first foray into what the company calls “spatial computing.” The headset focuses on augmented reality, which overlays computer-generated content onto the real world, though it offers virtual reality, too. And many other features — it can be a desktop Mac replacement. While its bleeding-edge technology draws praise, the $3,500 price remains a drawback.
After a surge of sales at the February launch, U.S. demand for Vision Pro supposedly slowed. Apple’s answer seems to be expanding availability.
“Shipments to non-U.S. markets, mainly the U.K., France, Germany, China, Japan, and Singapore, are set to begin before the middle of this month,” said Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst who follows Apple for TF International Securities.
Pricing for the headset outside the United States is as-yet unknown, and will (of course) vary from country to country. But it’s safe to say the cost will be at least the local equivalent of $3,500 US.
Soon with visionOS 2
The announcement of much wider availability of Vision Pro will almost certainly come during the keynote address for WWDC24 on Monday, June 10. And it’s equally likely the venue will also bring visionOS 2, the first major update to the operating system used by the headset.
According to information leaked to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, “The new visionOS 2.0 will address missing features from the first iteration. That includes adding dedicated versions of Apple’s own apps, rather than just using the iPad ones.”
That might include Books, Maps, Podcasts, Voice Memos and more.
