Apple will reportedly bring Apple Intelligence to the Vision Pro. The AI-powered features will not arrive alongside iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia, but will eventually come to Apple’s AR/VR headset.
Many Apple Intelligence features would greatly benefit visionOS and help speed up its existing workflows.
Vision Pro unlikely to get AI-powered features anytime soon
During WWDC24, Apple announced Apple Intelligence for iPhone, iPad and Mac. While visionOS 2 also debuted at the event, Apple didn’t talk about bringing its AI efforts to the headset. However, this does not mean Apple does not intend to bring its AI features to its spatial computing headset.
In the June 30th edition of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman claims Apple is “actively working” on bringing Apple Intelligence to the Vision Pro. The headset, which uses an M2 chipset and 16GB of system memory, has the horsepower to handle Apple’s AI features.
So, why is Apple delaying bringing Apple Intelligence to its $3,500 Vision Pro? “The bigger challenge will be getting the user interface design team to make it all look right in the mixed-reality environment,” says Gurman.
Unlike iPhones and Macs, Vision Pro has not sold in large numbers. So, the extra server load of bringing Apple Intelligence to the headset should be minimal.
Apple Intelligence features will take time to rollout
Apple might wait until the release of visionOS 3 in 2025 to bring Apple Intelligence to the Vision Pro. Even when iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia debut later this year, all Apple Intelligence features won’t arrive at launch. Instead, the Cupertino giant will roll them out gradually, with some of the biggest features not arriving until future iOS 18 releases early next year.
Worse, the company has confirmed it will not bring Apple Intelligence to Europe due to the EU’s Digital Markets Act.
The delay in bringing Apple Intelligence to the Vision Pro will give Apple more time to refine its AI features and sort out all the initial troubles.
