Wouldn’t you love to have half a dozen M-series MacBooks in your computer setup? One second thought, maybe that’s too much of a good thing. And it might only come up if you had to use most of them for work, like in today’s featured setup. A mobile device management (MDM) engineer does a lot of MDM testing on MacBooks for his job. If you use a Mac for work, he’s the guy who makes sure it keeps working efficiently and securely.

MDM engineer and Redditor ajpinton (“AJ”) showcased the workmanlike MacBook setup — really quite a MacBook party, actually — in a post entitled “Work from home setup for an MDM engineer.”

“Nothing terribly fancy, no amazing views, just basement walls where I toil every day testing and developing enterprise management solutions for macOS and iOS,” AJ wrote. “Yes, I am that guy who manages your work Mac.”

So his work, similar to that of outfits like Hexnode and Jamf (and maybe he even works for one of those), is to manage Apple devices in work settings. The devices probably include Macs, iPads and iPhones used onsite as well as remotely. It sounds like his job is to develop and test out MDM functionality to make sure it works well over macOS and iOS for employees as well as their employers (regarding security protocols and such).

Here’s how he listed his impressive array of work and personal gear:

  • Monitor – Dell P3221D with soundbar
  • Work MacBook – MBP16 M4 Max
  • Test MacBook 1 – MBP14 M3 Pro
  • Test MacBook 2 – MBA13 M3
  • Keyboard and Mouse – Logitech MX series
  • Personal MacBook (Closed on the desk) – MBP14 M4 Pro
  • Personal iPad Pro (Closed on the desk) – M1 iPad Pro
  • The devices not in the picture are a MBP14 M3 Pro and MBP16 M2 Pro that are also used for testing.
